…Amélie & Catherine Barbedienne

Alexandra Isaï
Hi! How are you?
Hi! We are fine, thank you :)
Can you introduce yourself to TICW readers?
We are twins (Amélie and Catherine), 22 years old, and we live in France, near Paris (45km), in a little town.
Do you think your hometown is a suitable place for creatives like you?
As we live near Paris and work there, yes it is a suitable place for creative people, with many differents architectures, museums, galleries. It is a multi-cultural city. Our little town is also a good place to create: fields, woods, near castles and medieval cities! Perfect for people with a lot of imagination, like us.
Did you study in any art school?
We studied 3 years at the university: 2 years Art, and 1 year photography (it was more theory than practice). Then we studied 1 year in a photography school, to improve our practice. We finished oour studies in June 2012. And now we are working for an e-commerce society, doing photographs of clothes, shoes… Not so creative, but it is a good start.

When and how did you get passionate with photography?
Good question! Hum… We get passionate with Art when we were young: started drawing, painting… And photography came later, when we received our first camera (we were around 17 years).
What are your main visual influences?
There are many artists that influence us. In photogprahy: The pictorialists, some Surrealists photographers, and young photographers that we discoverd on internet. We appreciate Liliroze (Nathalie Roze), Brooke Shaden, Nicholas Scarpinato, Njordfoto, Katerina Plotnikova etc.
We also like illustrations from Theodore Kittelsen, John Bauer etc.
Music is a great inspiration too: folk, medieval and metal.
As we are passionate with mythology, old tales, fairies, it is easy to find inspiration!

Can you tell us someting about your typical working method?
We do not really have a typical working method. Sometimes we have an idea and decide to create it in 5 minutes. But sometimes we need a few weeks to create a photograph.
What role has the Internet in your daily life?
Internet is a good place to show our work and receive critics. But it is also a good way to discover unknown but talented people.
What are you working on these days?
We have an idea we want to realise but not enough time as we are working 40h hours per week… It is around the word “Black”. We hope to find some time soon to create it, as we have made all the accessories we will need!
What about your plans for the future?
Good question again! We will see what future brings us :)

Thank you! Is there anything else would you like to say to our readers?
Sorry for our frenchie english?! :)
If you like our work, don’t hesitate to share and/or comment it!
Thank you for reading us.
